"Windows" is the common theme uniting the selections for the 2019 Summer Reading List.
Additionally, by selecting anthologies of short writing, a greater variety of perspectives are visible in each book.
Rudine Sims Bishop originated the concept of books as "Mirrors" (books in which the reader can see themself), "Windows" (books in which the reader look through to see other worlds and perspectives), and "Sliding Doors" (books the reader can step through to enter those other worlds"
